The publisher Picador didn't connect with the characters in my novel. They said "NO" to publishing THE HANDBOOK FOR LIGHTNING STRIKE SURVIVORS.
My wonderful New York agent, Wendy Schmalz, thinks that with nineteen rejections, we've covered our bases.
I hope that having bought baseball uniforms today for Halloween costumes, there's some connection, and she will think of one or two more bases.
I am still writing. I am writing, writing, writing; a little sullen, but writing.
update: October 19, 2007: We've run out of places to submit THE HANDBOOK FOR LIGHTNING STRIKE SURVIVORS. I can't imagine having an agent work any harder for me. It is all very disappointing. I raise the white flag.
